CHRISTIAN HEALTHCARE MINISTRIES AND DAVE RAMSEY IN NEW RELATIONSHIP
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM) is teaming up with Dave Ramsey, nationally syndicated radio talk show host and best-selling author, to help Christian college students learn money management skills that will last them for their lifetimes. CHM is sponsoring the curriculum in Christian colleges such as College of the Ozarks and Evangel University.
The Rev. Howard Russell, CHM executive director, said the relationship is a good fit given Ramsey’s Christian beliefs and CHM’s mission. “Health care costs are a major component of Americans’ financial life, and the earlier they learn how to manage health care and other costs of living the more they will enjoy life and be able to serve God effectively,” Russell said.
The college curriculum, Foundations for Life and Money, is being introduced to colleges across the country. The life-changing course is divided into four chapters: saving, budgeting, debt, and career/college planning. Through Foundations for Life and Money, students are empowered to make financial decisions that allow them to begin their adult life on the right financial path.
“We’re delighted to be working with Dave Ramsey,” Russell said. “His Financial Peace University and other financial programs are improving the lives of millions of people. Dave began Foundations for Life and Money to help young people prepare for their futures, and we’re glad to be a part of that effort. We’re also pleased that our sponsorship of this program introduces the next generation of Christian individuals and families to CHM.”
Christian Healthcare Ministries, based in Barberton, Ohio, is a nearly 30-year-old cost-sharing ministry through which Christian members share in meeting each other’s medical bills. CHM is not insurance. CHM’s thousands of members throughout all 50 states participate voluntarily.
No one is denied CHM membership because of a health condition. Monthly financial gift amounts ($150 for an individual at the highest level of service) are not increased and members are not cancelled if they develop an expensive illness.
“We are excited about our new relationship with Christian Healthcare Ministries,” says Dave Ramsey. “Helping college students understand the importance of handling their money will make an invaluable impact on their lives. Thanks to our friends at Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM) thousands of lives will be impacted.”
Ramsey’s show is heard on more than 450 radio stations by more than 4.5 million listeners weekly. He has written three New York Times best-selling books on personal finance. His organization, The Lampo (Greek for “light) Group, based in Nashville, offers multiple programs for financial freedom, among them the well-known Financial Peace University.
In a letter to college students introducing Foundations for Life and Money, Ramsey wrote, in part: “I built a multi-million-dollar business in my twenties, only to have it wiped out because I didn’t know how to manage my money—and I even had a college finance degree! Don’t learn about money the hard way like I did.”
Russell said that CHM is excited about the relationship because of the good it will do for young people. “There is no doubt that many benefits will result from this for everyone involved,” he said.

LETTER TO CHM MEMBERS REGARDING PASSAGE OF NATIONAL HEALTH CARE BILL
Dear CHM member:
You may understandably be wondering if the March 21 vote on health care in the U.S. House of Representatives affects Christian Healthcare Ministries.
You will be glad to know that the legislation recognizes health cost sharing ministries. Simply put, Christian Healthcare Ministries is not affected by the legislation.
We will continue to operate an affordable, Bible-based health care support program that enables
you and thousands of fellow Christians to meet your need for health cost support.
You can rest assured that you are able to stay with CHM and can continue to refer others
to CHM.
The new law says that eventually everyone must have some type of health care cost support or
they will be penalized. CHM satisfies that requirement.
Many experts and analysts are saying that health insurance premiums will actually increase under this bill because of the new people coming into the system and other requirements.
CHM will not be affected by insurance premium increases. We are not insurance. We will
continue to provide affordable, quality health cost sharing support.
We are deeply appreciative of your support, prayers and faithfulness.
We are grateful to God for His grace and for sustaining this ministry.
In His Service,
Rev. Howard S. Russell
Executive Director
