ALABAMA Harold and Janette C. Harold and Janette are a couple in their sixties who have been CHM members since 1992. Harold had a hernia patch in 2001 and Janette had an infection in 2002. Both medical needs were shared by CHM members.
ARIZONA Gene and Laraine B. Gene and Laraine are a couple in their sixties who have been CHM members since 1994. Gene works as a forensic mechanical engineer and Laraine is an administrative assistant. In 2006, Gene had an aortic aneurysm that required an emergency operation to insert an endoluminal graft (ELG) into his aortic arch. It leaked, leading to another operation. These operations led to related medical complications, numerous doctor appointments and prescriptions with the overall cost totaling more than $170,000 in 2006. Medicare handled the majority of these medical costs, but CHM members shared more than $6,000 that could not be covered through Medicare.
CALIFORNIA John J. John is a teacher in his sixties who has been a member of Christian Healthcare Ministries since 2003.
Frank and Idella C. Frank and Idella have been CHM members since 1992. Idella had gallbladder surgery in 1996 and CHM members shared her $10,000 in bills.
FLORIDA Richard L. Richard is in his late sixties and has been a CHM member since 1984. He is a member of his church clergy.
Al and Joan R. Al and Joan are in their sixties and have been members of CHM since 1991. Joan works as a realtor. Al was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism in December 2005 and was hospitalized for serious blood clotting in October 2006. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2007. CHM members have shared all of Al's qualifying bills. They write, "CHM has been here for us and has helped us through everything. What a blessing in such critical times!"
Guy B. Guy is in his sixties and has been a member of CHM since 2006. He is self-employed and buys and sells guitars. He also is an adjunct professor in Ohio. Guy was diagnosed with tongue cancer in January 2007. He has had 62 radiation treatments and seven chemotherapy treatments. He has incurred bills for more than $79,000, but received bill reductions totaling approximately $36,000.
INDIANA Amanda T. Amanda is in her mid-twenties and has been a CHM member since 2001. She works as an office manager and an artist. She writes, "I am thankful for the opportunity to help fellow believers and for the knowledge that I have help available if I ever need it."
IOWA Jim M. Jim has been a member of CHM since 1998. He works as a carpenter and has had an intestinal disorder since 1999. He has been recovering through nutritional supplements and eating and drinking right as explained in The Word on Health by Dr. Michael Jacobson, CHM medical consultant.
Paul and Dawn S. Paul and Dawn are a couple in their thirties who have been members of CHM since 2003. Paul serves as a pastor. In 2006, Paul had a colonoscopy and Dawn went through a pregnancy with complications. CHM members shared all of the bills for the colonoscopy and also shared many of the pregnancy bills.
KANSAS Melissa P. Melissa is a building contractor in her late thirties who has four children who also are members. Melissa's husband passed away in 2000. The family accumulated approximately $250,000 in medical bills during his battle with cancer. By 2001, CHM members shared all of his bills. Also, Melissa's daughter, Chloe, nearly drowned in 1996. CHM members shared her $10,000 in medical bills.
KENTUCKY Jerry and Jeanette M. Jerry and Jeanette are in their early seventies and have been CHM members since 1992. Both serve as ministers. In 2004, Jerry had an operation for total knee replacement on both knees. CHM members shared his bills.
LOUISIANA Lynda D. Lynda is in her late fifties and has been a CHM member since 1995. She works in prison ministry and her husband is a residential contractor. In 1999, Lynda was near death with acute pancreatitis. CHM helped her obtain reductions on this bill. She also had major surgery for pancreatic debridement in 1999. Her medical bills were ongoing for several years. With additional help from CHM’s Brother’s Keeper program, CHM members shared all her bills totaling more than $225,000.
MICHIGAN Judy L. Judy is in her mid-sixties and has been a member of CHM since 1991. She is now retired. Her husband had heart surgery in the mid-1990s and was again in the hospital in 2004. Bills for both situations were shared by CHM members.
Bill and Shirley E. Bill is in his early eighties and Shirley is in her seventies. They have been members of CHM since 1994. Bill's first wife died of cancer in 2003. CHM members shared their medical bills for two years of testing and treatment.
MINNESOTA Roger and Melanie L. Roger and Melanie are a couple in their forties who have been CHM members since 1992. Roger serves as a pastor and Melanie is a Creative Memories consultant. They have four children (two of them are CHM members). In 2005, Roger had a brain aneurysm rupture that required surgery. CHM helped him obtain a $73,000 reduction on his $108,000 bill! Part of the reduction was applied to Roger’s CHM Personal Responsibility amount, so he paid no out-of-pocket expenses for the procedure. After the reduction, CHM members shared the remaining $35,000.
MISSISSIPPI Gene and Barbara H. Gene and Barbara are a couple in their fifties who have been CHM members since 1996. Gene serves as a minister. They have had one medical need shared by CHM members. They write, "We are glad to help with others' expenses. We believe in Christians helping Christians."
NEW JERSEY Jon and Bjorg B. Jon and Bjorg have been CHM members since 1998. They both work as owners of a preschool. Jon was diagnosed with bronchial cancer. CHM worked with his medical providers and Jon received a $55,000 reduction on his bills! CHM members then shared the remaining amount of his bills. CHM members also shared Bjorg's medical bills for uterine polyps.
OHIO Gerald and Dana P. Gerald and Dana are in their late fifties and have been CHM members since 2004. Gerald serves as a pastor. In 2006, Gerald had back surgery for a ruptured disc. Through help from CHM, the hospital and surgeon wrote off the entire amount of the bills. Also in 2006, Gerald was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. He had many tests and medications and had a defibrillator implanted. Gerald received a reduction from his health care provider and CHM members shared the remaining balance of his medical bills.
OKLAHOMA Steve and Mary C. Steve and Mary are a couple in their sixties who have been CHM members since 1996. Steve is an evangelist. They have submitted medical bills for two separate incidents, and CHM members shared the bills both times.
Melinda W. Melinda is in her forties and has been a CHM member since 2001.
PENNSYLVANIA Darell G. Darell has been a CHM member since 1992. He serves as a pastor. Darell was hospitalized in 2005 with pneumonia and then had a heart catheterization. CHM members shared more than $48,000 in bills.
SOUTH CAROLINA Carolyn M. Carolyn is in her sixties and has been a CHM member since 1993. She and her husband are involved in various ministries in their hometown. Carolyn had medical testing for her heart in March 2006. CHM members shared all of her bills.
Bubba and Julina H. Bubba and Julina are a couple in their mid-thirties who have been CHM members since 2006. Bubba works as a chef and Julina stays at home with their two sons.
Gerald and Linda V. Gerald and Linda have been CHM members since 1992. They are both self-employed building sunrooms and screened porches. They have had several medical needs shared by CHM members, including bills from gallbladder surgery, skin cancer, and hernia repair.
SOUTH DAKOTA Mark and Rebecca K. Mark and Rebecca are a couple in their fifties who have been CHM members since 1996. Mark is a farmer and Rebecca home schools her six children and also distributes products for Reliv. Rebecca was hospitalized for one month with empyema. CHM worked with Rebecca's providers for a reduction on her $60,000 in medical bills. CHM members then shared the remaining balance.
TEXAS Jim and Wilma J. Jim and Wilma have been CHM members since 1989. Jim works in video production for the government and corporate industries. CHM members have shared Jim’s bills for a heart catheterization and stent.
Lamar and Patricia L. Lamar and Patricia are a retired couple in their sixties who have been CHM members since 1993.
Erik and Adreana L. Erik and Adreana are a couple in their thirties who have been CHM members since 2002. Erik works as an applications developer. Erik was hospitalized in September 2005 for a seizure condition. He had a brain tumor removed from the back of his head. CHM members shared his hospital bills.
WASHINGTON Susanna and Locke M. Susanna and Locke are a couple in their thirties who have been CHM members since 2000. Locke works as a pastoral counselor. In 2004, CHM members shared more than $20,000 in medical bills for the birth of their twins. CHM members also shared medical bills for the birth of their daughter in 2005.
WISCONSIN Dennis H. Dennis is a piano teacher and tuner in his mid-thirties who has been a CHM member since 2006.
Heidi C. Heidi is a piano teacher in her early thirties who has been a CHM member since 2006.
WYOMING Todd and Melissa S. Todd and Melissa are a couple in their thirties who have been CHM members since 1996. Todd serves as a pastor. They have four children who also are CHM participants. In 2000, CHM members shared medical bills for the birth of their daughter.
Cody and Sheri J. Cody and Sheri are campus ministers in their late thirties who have been CHM members since 1998. CHM members shared all medical bills for the birth of their daughter after their Personal Responsibility amount was met.
